The coastal and marine police have been asked to remain alert in view of possible infiltration bid by Bangladeshi nationals into Odisha territory following the political turmoil in the neighbouring country, informed Director General of Police Arun Kumar Sarangi on Thursday.
Speaking to the media, Sarangi said, “We have directed all the coastal districts and marine police stations to remain alert to prevent entry of illegal immigrants into our territory.”
“There are 18 police stations in the seven coastal districts. Of the 18 police stations, nine marine police stations are in Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapara. As these three districts are close to Bangladesh, they have been asked to remain very alert. Moreover, the marine police stations in these districts have been provided with more manpower to keep an eye on the situation.”
As per the rule, the marine police have been directed to intensify patrolling activities in the sea to five nautical miles, the DGP informed.
Earlier, the Odisha government issued a high alert and asked all the superintendents of police (SP), especially of coastal districts to check the entry routes along the sea coast. A 24*7 control room has also been opened in the office of the ADG and coastal security.
