The Odisha government has increased the material costs for midday meals in primary and upper primary schools under the PM Poshan Scheme.
As per the communiqué from the Department of School and Mass Education to all the district Collectors, the material cost for midday meals for primary students reading in Class I to V has been increased from the existing Rs.5.90 to Rs.7.64. Similarly, the same for upper primary students studying in Class VI to VIII has been hiked from Rs.8.82 to Rs.10.94.
The revised material cost to be paid from December 1, 2024, said the communiqué.

“The day-to-day expenditure is to be made on the prevailing market price, availability of seasonal vegetables, keeping the average unit cost of expenditure to Rs.7.64 for Primary students and Rs.10.94 for Upper Primary students. Hence the management authority will have the flexibility over the items and ingredients of PM Poshan meal expenditure subject to the condition that the average unit cost is not exceeded,” read the communiqué.
