In a notable move against the illegal drug trade in Odisha, police have detained a home guard accused of smuggling cannabis. The incident unfolded in the Binika area of the Subarnapur district.
The home guard, identified as Prashant Sandha, found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was caught transporting cannabis on his scooty. He was later arrested and produced in court. The cops have also arrested his accomplice in this connection.
How Police Nabbed the Accused Home Guard
According to sources, Prashant along with his accomplice was involved in ganja smuggling since a long time. The Binika police, acting on a tip-off, orchestrated a special operation on the banks of Mahanadi river. During this sting operation, officers intercepted him with several packets of contraband being transported using his scooty.
Seizure and Legal Proceedings
Cops have confiscated approximately 8 kg of cannabis from Prashant and his aide. Both the accused were subsequently presented before the court. Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of their involvement in the illegal trade.
The investigation forms part of a broader effort to combat drug-related offences in the region, emphasising the strict measures being adopted to end ganja smuggling.
