Odisha hikes pay of Sarpanchs, Zilla Parishad members and other Panchayati Raj representatives

Sarpanchs will now get Rs 10,000 instead of Rs 2,350 while Naib Sarpanchs will get Rs 4,000 instead of Rs 490. The daily allowance and sitting fees of Sarpanchs, Naib Sarpanch and ward members have been hiked to Rs 480 from the existing Rs 240 per day.

 A day after Sarpanchs staged a massive demonstration in Bhubaneswar alleging lack of adequate remuneration and curtailment of power, the Odisha government on Tuesday announced a hike in the remuneration and other benefits for the Panchayati Raj representatives in the state.

As per the decision, Sarpanchs will now get Rs 10,000 instead of Rs 2,350 while Naib Sarpanchs will get Rs 4,000 instead of Rs 490. The daily allowance and sitting fees of Sarpanchs, Naib Sarpanch and ward members have been hiked to Rs 480 from the existing Rs 240 per day.
