There are many instances of neglect in the maintenance of huge and modern infrastructures built for mega events in India. In this context, there was a question mark over the future of the infrastructure constructed for the Hockey World Cup 2023 in Odisha.
The apprehension by sports enthusiasts and experts in the State has been proved correct, as the Odisha government has decided to lease out the Hockey World Cup village in Rourkela.
The State government has floated a tender to lease out the Hockey World Cup village having all kinds of modern facilities. As per reports, the Hockey World Cup village will be leased out not on a short-run term rather on a long-run basis.
However, the Sports Department officials have refused to give any comments about the floating of the tender.
The World Cup Village, which flaunts 225 rooms with all kinds of modern amenities, was built to house the teams, coaches, support staff and officials during the last Hockey World Cup.
As per reports, resentment is brewing among the sportspersons and sports enthusiasts in the State about the development. Some of them are of the opinion that when the State government is claiming to provide World No.1 hockey infrastructures for the players, why the management of Hockey World Cup Village will be entrusted to a third party. Rather, the State government should manage the world-class infrastructure properly.
