In a significant step to address the ever-growing traffic pressure between the Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the Odisha government has given the green signal for the construction of a second bridge at Trisulia. The project, aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity, will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 297 crore.
Responding to a question raised by Congress MLA Sophia Firdous in the Odisha Assembly, Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan confirmed the development in a written reply. He stated that the tender process is already in progress, and the construction has been targeted for completion within 36 months.
The proposed bridge is expected to serve as a major relief to commuters, as the existing Trisulia bridge currently bears heavy vehicular traffic linking Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and the adjoining districts. With traffic density in the region increasing rapidly, the second bridge will not only ease congestion but also ensure safer and faster passage for vehicles.
Officials said the project reflects the government’s larger vision of expanding urban infrastructure to match the needs of Odisha’s fast-growing cities. By adding an alternative route at Trisulia, the state aims to decongest one of the busiest stretches of the metropolitan corridor.

Once completed, the bridge is expected to become a key infrastructural asset, boosting both daily commutes and trade movement across the Twin City region.
