Odisha Government expedited the pace of constituting new civic bodies in the State, including 57 NACs and six Municipalities. However, politics intensified over the exercise on Thursday.
According to sources, requisite information from as many as 23 districts has not reached yet, only except at least seven districts that have furnished the needed information.

BJD-led government announced to constitute new civic bodies in Odisha in March this year. On the contrary, the Additional Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development department insisted the District Collectors concerned submit their reports soon, writing to them on November 2.
Announcements alone were hurriedly made by the previous government to woo local voters and to obtain public mandate during the last General Elections, Odisha BJP alleged.
In a presser, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty stated, “Nothing has been proposed afresh. We hope that they should do something new at least.”
“New NACs will be constituted in the areas where the population is more than 10,000, and new Municipalities where the population is more than 20,000,” the Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushnachandra Mahapatra clarified.
“We have sought detailed information in proper manner from District Collectors concerned in this regard,” the Minister further said.
