A senior official of the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water (PR & DW) Department of Odisha Government, Ramesh Chandra Jena, had been earning lakhs of rupees by illegally letting out his government quarters near the Market building in Bhubaneswar.
Had he not been caught in the Vigilance net for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, such startling revelations wouldn’t have come to the fore.
Notably, Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday conducted simultaneous raids at eight places including the office and residence of Ramesh Chandra Jena.

During the investigation, it came to light that he had let out his government quarters (IV A 46/1) near the Market Building in Bhubaneswar on a monthly rent of Rs 12,000.
‘We have been living here for the last three two years. As he is known to us, we never thought of any illegality of having his government quarters on rent,’ said the tenant.
