Amid debates over the appointment of Agniveers, the Odisha Cabinet headed by CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday announced a 10% quota in state uniform services for the short-term military men.
As per the decision, the government will provide 10 percent reservation for ex-Agniveers in the posts of police, forest guards, fire personnel, and excise department.
After the Cabinet meeting, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja talked to the media and said the proposed rule aims to provide ample opportunities for Ex-Agniveers to secure jobs in uniform services in all Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts in Direct Recruitment of the state. 'Such reservation shall be over and above the reservation applicable for ex-servicemen'.
“The Agniveers serve in the military for four years. They have all the necessary training. After the completion of four years, only a few eligible ones are given an extension. But, now Odisha will provide 10% reservation for these Agniveers in uniform services,” said Manoj Ahuja.
However, the Agniveers must fulfill the required minimum qualifications prescribed for the posts in the relevant recruitment rules as of the date of award of the Agniveer certificate. Furthermore, the Agniveers will be exempted from the physical efficiency test and given three years’ age relaxation in the prescribed upper age limit.
Other Important Decisions That Got Odisha Cabinet Approval
The Odisha Cabinet has also given the nod for a proposal to frame new rules to appoint unmarried daughters of deceased government employees under the rehabilitation assistance scheme. As per the decision, a daughter of a government employee, who dies while being in service, will be rehabilitated on compassionate grounds.
Even stepdaughters can be eligible to replace their deceased fathers, as per the Cabinet decision.
“If a government employee dies during his service tenure, then his daughter/stepdaughter irrespective of their marital status can be given his post on compassionate grounds under the rehabilitation scheme,” Ahuja stated.
