In a major boost to railway connectivity in Odisha, the Central Government has announced that a new Amrit Bharat Train will soon run between Berhampur in Ganjam district and Surat in Gujarat.
The announcement has been welcomed with joy, especially by migrant workers from Ganjam who travel to Surat in large numbers for jobs and livelihood opportunities.
Every day, hundreds undertake this journey, but with only two trains currently connecting the district to Surat, overcrowding and ticket shortages have been a persistent challenge.
The new train service is expected to significantly ease the pressure, offering passengers more comfort, convenience, and reliable connectivity on this busy route.
“This is a big relief for all of us. The train will not only reduce overcrowding but also make our journey smoother and faster,” said a passenger.
Echoing the sentiment, a local resident added, “We’ve been waiting for better railway connectivity for a long time. This initiative shows the government is listening to the needs of the people.”
The introduction of the Berhampur–Surat Amrit Bharat Train is also expected to support the livelihoods of thousands of families in Ganjam by making travel to the industrial hub more accessible.
