In a landmark step towards strengthening early childhood care, the Odisha government inaugurated 913 newly built Anganwadi centres across Odisha. This initiative marks a significant move to ensure that every Anganwadi in the state will soon have its own permanent building, putting an end to the practice of makeshift or borrowed spaces. The Anganwadi centres were inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida.
People’s Participation Shapes Policy
The government’s “Aas Buli Jiba Anganwadi” campaign drew an overwhelming public response. In just 15 days, over 3.53 lakh people shared their feedback. Acting on this input, the state plans to transform Anganwadi centres into Saksham Anganwadis robust, well-equipped facilities. In cases of land shortages, the government has pledged to purchase land and build new centres, ensuring no community is left behind.

The Anganwadi centres were done across the state including, 35 in Angul, 77 in Balasore, 44 in Bargarh, 34 in Bhadrak, 23 in Balangir, 11 in Boudh, 26 in Cuttack, 5 in Deogarh, 18 in Dhenkanal, 14 in Gajapati, 72 in Ganjam, 37 in Jagatsinghpur, 19 in Jajpur, 18 in Jharsuguda, 90 in Kalahandi, 22 in Kandhamal, 22 in Kendrapara, 17 in Kendrapara (second phase), 18 in Keonjhar, 61 in Khordha, 34 in Koraput, 8 in Malkangiri, 7 in Mayurbhanj, 26 in Nabarangpur, 56 in Nayagarh, 10 in Nuapada, 68 in Puri, 18 in Rayagada, 12 in Sambalpur, 16 in Subarnapur, and 17 in Sundargarh.
"Today, 913 Anganwadi buildings/ centres were handed over to us. The largest number of centres have been given to Kalahandi at 90. Several Anganwadi centres didn’t have their own building, which is why they could not store their belongings and items meant for children in a proper manner. So the Chief Minister had directed that all anganwadi centres will have their own dedicated buildings," said Dy CM Pravati Parida.
