Normal life was thrown out of gear in parts of Odisha’s Koraput district following continuous overnight rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system over the region. The downpour has led to a sharp rise in the water levels of several rivers and streams, submerging roads and disrupting vehicular movement.

A temporary bridge near Bangalaguda under Koraput block got submerged early Wednesday morning, with nearly two feet of water flowing over it.

As a result, all traffic through the route has come to a standstill, leaving vehicles stranded on both sides of the approach road.

The district administration has issued advisories to commuters, directing them to take diversion routes via Shuku and Bagra chhak to avoid the waterlogged area. Local authorities are on alert and closely monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of southern and interior Odisha, including Koraput, for the next 72 hours. The department has advised people in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

With rainfall expected to continue, the threat of further flooding and disruption looms large, raising concerns among residents and the administration alike. Emergency response teams have reportedly been kept on standby to tackle any untoward situation.
