In an unusual incident of utter negligence, the bodies of two persons sent to their family members through a courier service got interchanged. Even the family at Kuanasala village under Nemalo police station in Cuttack district who received one of the wrong bodies reportedly cremated it.
As per reports, Bilash Bhuyan from Kuanasala was working in a private motor showroom in Mumbai for a long time. However, Bilash passed away suddenly after a brief illness a couple of weeks back. His body was sent to his family members through a courier service. Subsequently, the family members cremated the body on Monday evening.
However, to the utter dismay of the family members, Nemala police informed them that the body they cremated was not of Bilash. Rather it was the body of someone from Rajasthan. The strange happening triggered resentment among the family members, relatives and several people in the area.
“The body which was sent to Bilash’s family was distorted to some extent. It resembled Bilash to a little extent. It was pretty difficult to identify it properly. All the family members and relatives were mistaken. Out of sorrow and grief, they cremated the body as per the rituals. However, they were shocked to get the right information from the police later,” said Sarat Kumar Mallik, a villager.
As per reports, the matter came to the limelight when the family in Rajasthan received the other body through the courier service. They found to their astonishment that the person’s body they have received was not the member of their family. Subsequently, they lodged an FIR at a police station in Mumbai. Following a preliminary inquiry, it was revealed that the bodies got interchanged by the courier company with different addresses.
The family from Rajasthan is on their way to collect the mortal remains of their relative. They are also reportedly bringing Bilash’s body with them.
“The family from Rajasthan will reach Kuanasala village soon to take away the mortal remains of their relative. They are bringing the body of Bilash with them,” said Salipur SDPO Bimal Kumar Barik.
