The Odisha government seems to be grappling with a severe administrative crisis as several key bureaucratic positions remain unfilled across the state services. The alarming situation came to light during the recent Odisha Assembly session, where Chief Minister Mohan Majhi provided an official response to a question raised by MLA Tankadhar Tripathy regarding the status of administrative vacancies in the state.

According to the data presented, 67 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and 69 Indian Police Service (IPS) positions are currently vacant in Odisha.

 Additionally, the shortage extends to other critical services as well. As per official data, 69 Indian Forest Service (IFS) posts, 253 Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) and Odisha Police Service (OPS) positions, 274 Odisha Finance Service (OFS) posts, 611 Odisha Forest Service (OFS) vacancies, and 263 Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) positions are currently lying vacant in the state.

The situation has raised serious concerns about the efficiency of governance and service delivery in Odisha. With such a significant number of vacancies, administrative functions in various districts and departments are likely to be affected. According to experts, the need of the hour is to expedite the recruitment process to ensure smooth governance and effective delivery of public services.
