Odisha Director of Public Health denies HMPV outbreak in Khordha

Amid reports about a possible Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) case in the Kaipadar area of Khordha, the Director of State Public Health Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, has assured there is no sign of the virus in the State as of now.

Speaking to media, Mishra revealed that there have been no confirmed cases of HMPV in the state, and no reports of people being infected by the virus from any other regions. 

He further clarified that all samples sent for testing have returned negative for HMPV and there is nothing to panic.

The symptoms of HMPV are similar to common cold and flu, such as fever and mild respiratory issues, and there is no reason for widespread fear, as the number of affected individuals remains low, he said.

The Health Department is monitoring the situation closely, and the public is urged to remain calm. The general symptoms are not severe, and there is no significant rise in cases at present, Mishra informed.
