Odisha Crime Branch DG Vinaytosh Mishra reached FM College, Balasore on Sunday to carry forward the investigation into the self-immolation of a female student. As per reports, he also reviewed the case proceedings so far at the DIG office before proceeding to the college.
Scene Reconstruction And Key Leads
Mishra is examining the site of the incident and investigating how the girl set herself on fire. He is expected to question the acting Principal and the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) members regarding the matter.
Reports suggest that the Crime Branch has found a strong lead related to how the petrol was sourced, possibly from a nearby fuel station. The Crime Branch DG stated he would address the media after returning from FM College, intensifying speculation about key developments in the case.
Eyewitness Accounts And Student Statements
According to reports, a youth was standing near the victim when she allegedly set herself ablaze and recorded the incident on his mobile phone. Another student present at the scene tried to save the girl by dousing the flames. The student, currently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, was also questioned by the Crime Branch. Speculation has grown that the agency may have obtained substantial evidence during this interaction.
ICC’s Role Under Scanner
The ICC team is being strongly questioned about their handling of the complaint brought forth by the victim and her father. Their alleged inaction has been criticised by MP Pratap Sarangi, who held them equally responsible along with the faculty member accused of sexually harassing the girl.
Faculty Summoned, Top Officials Present
Members of the ICC and faculty of FM College have reached the institution for questioning. IG S Saini is also present with the Crime Branch DG as part of the ongoing investigation.
