After reports of fertilizer black marketing surfaced across various parts of Odisha, strict measures were enforced on Sunday.

As per reports, raids were conducted at several places, and shops were sealed. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has issued a stern warning, stating that anyone caught selling fake fertilizers will be sent directly to jail.

District Collectors have been instructed accordingly. The government has made it clear that offenders will face imprisonment. Authorities stated that these measures will help ensure timely availability of urea and other fertilizers to farmers, while also curbing illegal price hikes.

"Those who are selling fake fertilizer will be arrested. Steps will be taken in this regard as per the zero-tolerance approach promised by this government," said Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

Earlier on the day, hundreds of farmers staged a road blockade on State Highway 39 at Umerkote in Nabarangpur district, protesting against the unavailability of urea fertilizer.

The farmers expressed strong resentment over the shortage of fertilizer and declared that they would not vacate the road until urea was supplied.

As per the allegation by the protesting farmers, they are not getting urea fertiliser for the last one and half months. Despite requesting the district Collector and other authorities, the matter has reportedly not been resolved.
