According to sources, the Indian National Congress is set to gherao the Parliament on July 21, the opening day of the upcoming Monsoon Session, protesting against the recent Balasore incident in Odisha. This announcement was made on Wednesday by National Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba, who stated that the Odisha case will be the top priority during the protest.
Lamba accused the Odisha government of a total administrative failure, especially regarding rising crimes against women. She severely criticised both the State and Central governments for their inaction and silence. Alleging that the Odisha Police is hesitant to act due to increasing political interference, Lamba emphasised that law and order has deteriorated drastically in the State.
As part of its campaign, the Mahila Congress plans to visit every district and Assembly constituency in Odisha to raise awareness and demand justice. Lamba vowed that the fight will continue from the streets to the Parliament until women in Odisha are ensured safety and justice.
Alka Lamba has also urged public support for the Odisha Bandh (statewide shutdown) called for tomorrow, encouraging citizens to stand against alleged lawlessness and government inaction.
“We will reach out to each and every district, Assembly constituency, Parliamentary segment, and every nook and corner of Odisha. We will keep visiting the places so long as the Betiyan (daughters) of the State are not secured, and those (women) who are the victims are not given justice. So long as the accused are not awarded punishment, our fight for justice will continue,” the senior Congress leader said in a presser.
Notably, no response has yet been received from either BJP or the Odisha government regarding her allegations.
