Odisha CM Mohan Majhi came down heavily on the previous BJD government during a special programme organised at Barchana in Jajpur district and announced a probe into the mysterious death of Dharmasala Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) Smitarani Biswal.
Addressing the gathering during the party’s membership drive, CM Mohan Majhi lambasted the previous Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government for massive irregularities in various developmental work. He said, “The previous government was involved in large-scale irregularities. Even there is no proper road connectivity to the villages.”
Raising the mysterious death of lady PEO Smitarani Biswal, the CM announced a detailed probe into the matter and said, “The BJD blows ‘respect to women’ trumpet but we have seen what had happened in the last two-three years. Dharmasala PEO was brutally murdered. Those who were blowing the ‘respect to women’ trumpet murdered the PEO. Instead of giving justice to the victim's family, the local leaders were shielded."
CM Targets BJD Over Nagada Malnutrition Deaths
The Nagada village in Jajpur district hogged headlines when 15 children died due to malnutrition. Though the then government launched schemes for the tribal-dominated village, it failed to implement them. There is no sign of development in the region,” the CM rued.
Responding to CM Majhi’s jibe, BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sulata Deo said, “In 2016, there were 335 habitants in Nagada and now the number has gone up to 687 in 2024. Why the CM is groping in the dark? Why is he not revealing the three names? It would be better if the CM comes with names and evidence.”
3 families looted Jajpur: CM Majhi
Without taking names, CM Majhi launched a scathing attack on three BJD leaders and said, "Three families have looted Jajpur in the name of development. Such leaders have not given justice to people and destroyed the area."
“BJD ruled the State for 24 years. The BJD leaders, who were representing Jajpur, never refrained themselves from acting as slaves. Jajpur is rich in mines and minerals. But, there is no development of people in the area,” CM Majhi added.
