Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has accused certain people in the system of having a ‘feudal mindset’. He alleged that certain people belonging to the opposition were unable to accept him as the Chief Minister of Odisha because he hails from a tribal and poor family.
In a sharply worded editorial titled “Raksha: The Bond of Relationship” on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Majhi criticised the Opposition, saying that they were not able to digest that a tribal, coming from a poor family, was the CM of Odisha.
However, he proclaimed that their criticism does not concern him but instead inspires him to work harder. He emphasised that while constructive criticism is welcome, his government functions fully within the framework of democracy.
“This is a feudal mindset. Biju Patnaik’s son Naveen Patnaik, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi; this is all a hereditary system. As they come from big families, they want to hold all the power within themselves,” he alleged.
However, reacting to his remarks, the BJD said it was inappropriate for the Chief Minister to make such statements. The party argued that if there are faults in the government, it is natural for the CM to be questioned.
“How does asking questions to the CM amount to feudalism?” questioned BJD leader Debi Mishra.
