Amid growing speculation about an impending cabinet expansion, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi met with Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati at Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The meeting, which lasted for nearly an hour, is being viewed as a significant development in the backdrop of the ongoing discussions surrounding the expansion of the state cabinet.

Though officially termed a courtesy call, sources suggest that the topic of cabinet expansion was a key point of discussion during the meeting. Currently, six ministerial positions in the Mohan Majhi-led government remain vacant, even after the government completed one year in office.

With this context, talks about an expansion have been gaining momentum. Speculation is rife over who will be inducted into the cabinet and who might be dropped, leading to intense discussions and internal assessments within the party leadership. Discussions are also doing rounds that there might be changes in the departments of some Ministers.

As per sources, the Chief Minister might have additionally informed about the current law and order situation in the state and the kind of initiatives taken by the state government in the wake of the self-immolation by a girl student of FM Autonomous College in Balasore and some miscreants setting a minor girl on fire at Balanga area in Puri district.

Notably, major political and administrative changes are expected in the Odisha government soon. The State government and party organisation are preparing for decisive moves to boost governance and party coordination. A cabinet expansion is imminent, and appointments for vacant leadership positions in boards and corporations are also in the pipeline.
