World Chhenapoda Dibasa is being celebrated across Odisha on Friday. The occasion pays tribute to Sudarsan Sahu, the creator of the celebrated dessert from Nayagarh, on his birth anniversary.

Chhenapoda, a traditional dessert having its origin in Nayagarh district, is cherished throughout Odisha and beyond. The traditional sweet and succulent delicacy, made from baked cheese, has found fans across various Indian states due to its unique flavour and preparation.
Celebrating a Sweet Legacy
First initiated by the non-profit organisation Helping Hand in 2022, World Chhenapoda Dibasa on April 11 is dedicated to honouring this quintessential Odia dessert. The celebration underscores not only the cultural significance of chhenapoda but also its growing popularity outside Odisha.
The Widespread Demand
Demand for chhenapoda is on the rise with the Nayagarh district witnessing the distribution of the dessert in huge amount to numerous locations daily, demonstrating its increasing appeal.

"We have been celebrating World Chhenapoda Dibasa since 2022. The special day is celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of its creator Sudarsan Sahu on April 11 every year. We celebrate the birthday in a grand way," said Bibhuti Bhusana Mohanty, a member of Helping Hand.
" Chhenapoda is the pride of Odisha. People across the globe should know about this sweet Odia delicacy. effort should be made to provide GI tag to Nayagarh chhenapoda," said Suman Sahu, son of Sudarsan Sahu.
