Odisha Cabinet
The Odisha government on Wednesday sanctioned the proposal of upgrading and strengthening 6794 government-run primary schools/sections as model schools in the state under the Godavarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya (GMAPV) scheme. The proposal of the School and Mass Education department has been approved by the state Cabinet headed by CM Mohan Majhi.
According to the Odisha government, the Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya initiative aims at establishing a model elementary school in every gram panchayat, aligning with the focus of the RTE Act, 2009 on inclusivity and quality education for marginalised communities which also reinforces the mission of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The financial implication on account of such construction of 6794 model primary schools will be Rs 11, 939.41 crore over a period of five years from 2024-25 to 2028-29. Approximately Rs 1 crore to Rs 4 crore will be spent per school depending on the number of enrolment. However, the actual expenditure will be based on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for each school.
Benefits
The operationalisation of 6974 model primary schools will enhance education access and foster the holistic development of students apart from aligning with the objective of the RTE Act, NEP 2020 and NIPUN Odisha to bolster foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) among the students.
