A businessman from Ganjam was duped of Rs 19 lakh by two conmen while making a deal to purchase an old chandelier from them in Berhampur.
Later, based on the FIR of the businessman, the miscreants were arrested and the amount was recovered from them.
The accused have been identified as Ajay from Cuttack and Shiba Shankar from Berhampur.
As per reports, the businessman identified as Pramod Sahu had a discussion with another businessman from Cuttack to purchase an old chandelier from him to decorate his house.
Pramod chose an old chandelier worth around Rs 60 lakh and evinced interest to buy it. It was decided that he will purchase it by paying Rs 19 lakh. However, as per his allegation, while making the purchase deal at Khodasingi area in Berhampur with two persons, the latter tactfully replaced his box carrying Rs 19 lakh with another box and fled from the spot.

When Pramod opened the box, he found to his utter dismay that only useless papers were inside it. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint about the matter at Baidyanathpur police station.
Based on the complaint, Baidyanathpur police started an investigation into the incident. As many as three police teams under the stewardship of Berhampur SP were formed to investigate the matter.
The teams conducted raids at different places and nabbed the two conmen. The police also seized Rs 19 lakh from their possession.
