In a major anti-narcotics operation that ended with a dramatic twist, Bolangir Sadar police on Sunday seized two cars, a truck, 20 kilograms of ganja, and 80 bottles of cough syrup. Despite this operation, 12 suspected traffickers managed to escape with more than two quintals of contraband.
According to reports, Bolangir police acted on a tip-off and confiscated vehicles and a small quantity of drugs during a raid. The seized truck and cars were later brought to Bolangir Sadar police station and shown at a press meet.
At first glance, it was assumed that police had intercepted a massive narcotics consignment and arrested several peddlers. However, the official disclosure revealed a far smaller haul, leaving many puzzled.
According to police, at least 12 accused gave the team the slip during the raid and fled with a much larger consignment of over 200 kilograms of ganja.
Probe Underway
Police have maintained that efforts are on to trace the absconding traffickers and recover the missing consignment.
“Sadar police acted on a tip-off and raided a group of traffickers near the solar plant. We seized three cars and 20kg of ganja, several bottles of cough syrup, and tablets. We have arrested one driver of the car and will now interrogate him further for details on those absconding. All of them will be nabbed soon following an investigation,” said Bolangir SDPO Saroj Upadhyay.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked discussions across Bolangir over the effectiveness of narcotics control drives, with many demanding stricter oversight of anti-drug operations in the district.
