Odisha BJP on Thursday lit into Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) for ‘gundagardi’ in Parliament and injuring MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput during protest on the steps of the Makar Dwar, the main entrance to Parliament for MPs.

National BJP Vice-President Baijayant Panda condemned the atrocious act of Rahul Gandhi. In a tweet, the MP slammed the LoP and wrote, “I strongly condemn the irresponsible and arrogant behavior of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. Such conduct by the Leader of the Opposition is shocking and is unacceptable in a democracy. Prayers for the speedy recovery of my Parliament colleagues, @pcsarangi and @mukeshrajput_mp.”

Likewise, Cuttack lawmaker Bhartruhari Mahtab said, “This is very unfortunate and disgusting. The Speaker has always said that demonstrations should not be held at Parliament’s ‘Makar Dwar’. I have seen such demonstration at the Makar Dwar. However, the way they were demonstrating and not letting anyone enter the Parliament is highly condemnable.”

Speaking to the media, senior politician and Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram stated that he was unaware of the incident as he had arrived a bit early.

“I have not seen it as I had a question-answer session and I arrived a bit early. I was absent during the incident. It is okay if lawmakers stage protests. If there was a protest, Rahul Gandhi should have very humbly requested to give way instead of pushing someone.”

Similarly, Aparajita Sarangi also slammed the LoP and said, “I have had a talk with the doctors. Pratap ji will be kept under observation. His blood pressure is high and he has suffered injuries on his left eyebrow. He has had two stitches. All I want to say is that protests should be held with humility and responsibility, which we have never seen in Congress.”

“We were protesting when Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi arrived. They forcibly tried to enter the Parliament when Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput ji were injured,” she added.

Similarly, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw lambasted Rahul Gandhi and said, “A very detailed discussion on the Constitution was done in the Parliament. The manner in which Congress' history was presented before the country, Congress is baffled due to that. Their real manner of functioning has come out in the open today. They injured two of our MPs by pushing them. Both of them are in the hospital. Is this the decorum of Parliament? Is that how you work in the Parliament? Congress should understand that the entire country clearly knows that Congress has always opposed Babasaheb Ambedkar and insulted him. Today, the entire country has come to know that they have no affinity for even parliamentary decorum.”
