Mohan Majhi Government has launched several major schemes in the past days, but the Odisha BJP struggles to spread the good word. Unusual delay in the selection of the party’s new president and chairpersons to different public bodies is said to be the main reason behind it.

According to sources, over the past year, the administration under Chief Minister Majhi has fulfilled at least 11 of its 21 major electoral promises, yet the ruling BJP faces organisational challenges that threaten its effectiveness at the grassroots level in Odisha.

Political commentators suggest that the absence of appointed leadership within the State party and the delay in filling vacancies on various boards and corporations have accentuated these issues.

BJP's ambitious Subhadra Yojana and OBC reservation

The BJP-led government may be gearing up for a celebration of its achievements, evidenced by successful projects such as Subhadra Yojana, improved farmer support, and increased reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in higher education, but translating these achievements into broad-based support remains problematic.

There is considerable discontent among the ruling party's rank-and-file concerning slow procedural operations, particularly the pending appointments of a new state president and other key positions. For the government’s flagship scheme successes, these organisational shortcomings have stunted the BJP’s progress, especially in rural Odisha.

The discord between government achievements and party infrastructure signals potential challenges ahead for Mohan government. Critics insist that addressing leadership gaps is imperative for maintaining public backing and ensuring party’s organisational vigour.
The situation remains a challenge particularly critiqued in political circles, with an urgent call for aligning government performance with internal party strength.

“We get to hear that discussions are already over to select the presidents and chairpersons to different boards and corporations. State leaderships including the Chief Minister and Ministers were involved in the discussions. I hope that the speculations will come to an end in near future,” Bhubaneswar-Ekamra MLA Babu Singh said to mediapersons.

“Six ministers are yet to be appointed and the positions still remain vacant. Several other key positions including board and corporation heads, are also to be filled. A major lacuna in coordination seems to be persisting somewhere or the other. Revamping the organisation is a vital decision,” political analyst Prasanna Mohanty stated when contacted.
