The Odisha Assembly proceedings were washed out on Saturday, the third day of the monsoon session, amid opposition BJD's protest over the fertilizer crisis during the ongoing kharif season in the state.

As soon as the House assembled for today’s proceedings, the BJD legislators stormed into the well of the House and demanded a detailed discussion on the alleged scarcity of fertilizer and farmers' agitation across the state.

The Opposition BJD alleged that the Odisha government failed to address the fertilizer shortage issue properly and demanded a day-long discussion on the crisis.

Sources said the House could not even run for a mere one minute. Unable to run the House, Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the proceedings till 4 pm.

The BJD MLAs are likely to meet the Governor today and submit a memorandum regarding the matter, sources said.

Earlier, the session saw a condolence motion moved by the Chief Minister Mohan Majhi over the demise of former Biramitrapur MLA George Tirkey. The motion received support from opposition leaders, including BJD and Congress leaders, with Congress Legislature Party leader Ramchandra Kadam and Deputy Leader Prasanna Acharya endorsing the proposal.

However, the ongoing protests over the fertiliser issue overshadowed proceedings.

The House also witnessed the same situation on the second day yesterday, and it could hardly transact business for only eight minutes in two phases.
