In a major decision benefiting lakhs of Odisha government employees and pensioners, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees. With this hike, the DA will rise from the existing 53% to 55%, offering much-needed relief against inflation.

The revised DA will be applicable retrospectively from January 1, 2025, and employees will receive the increased amount in cash along with the April salary, the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed in an official release.

Alongside this, a 2 per cent hike in the Dearness Relief (commonly referred to as TI or ‘Temporary Increase’) has also been announced for the Odisha government pensioners.

This move is set to benefit approximately 8.5 lakh individuals, including both active government employees and retired pensioners across Odisha.

The announcement comes as part of the state government’s commitment to improving the financial well-being of its workforce and senior citizens, particularly in the face of rising living costs.

This timely gesture has been welcomed across various employee associations, with many hailing it as a positive step towards financial security for thousands of families dependent on government service and pensions.
