The Odisha Amala Sangha put its state-wide agitation on hold on Saturday, seventeen days after launching the agitation.
The association’s decision came following a discussion with the 5T Secretary through video conferencing at the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell.
The association said they put the strike on hold even though they didn’t get any written assurance. They did so for their faith in the Chief Minister.
“After the discussion, we were assured that our demands will be taken into consideration. For this, a high-level committee will be formed on Monday. They have assured us that they will take a decision after discussing about our grade pay demand and how our members in districts can get promotions. We have faith in our Chief Minister so we have decided to put our strike on hold from today,” said Narayan Das, president, District Level Joint Ministerial Officers Manch.
Notably, on June 1, at least 50,000 state government employees (Amala/Ministerial Officers) launched a cease-work strike across Odisha and went on mass leave demanding a hike in grade pay and other perks from the government, resulting in disruption of work at several offices.
