Odia mountaineer Anita Swain makes the state proud again. In her recent expedition, Anita scaled Mount Elbrus in Russia. It is the highest mountain in Russia and the 10th-most prominent peak in the world.
For this achievement of hers, Odisha Sports & Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj felicitated her with a whooping Rs 2 lakh cash reward.
On July 13, 2023 Anita conquered another peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro. During this expedition, she was the only Indian mountaineer among other foreign nationalists. Kilimanjaro is the fourth most topographically prominent peak on earth. It is the highest mountain in Africa measuring 5,895m above the sea level.
Anita Swain’s journey started in 2015 during her graduation. She started her training under Shri Ganesh Jena, who is Odisha’s first climber to reach top of the Mount Everest.
Currently, she not only practices for her future aspirations but also teaches young enthusiastic climbers.
Swain is the daughter of daily wage labourers but this never came in her way to achieve her goals; she has full support of her family. She is currently preparing for her next target, which is world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.
