Suryakant had debts of around Rs 65 lakh
According to the sources, the jawan had allegedly engaged in online gambling, accumulating debts estimated at around Rs 65 lakh. It is believed that the pressure to repay these considerable debts may have contributed to his untimely demise.
Over the past two years, Suryakant had been extensively involved in online gaming, using his earnings and borrowing additional funds to support his gambling activities.
The jawan’s mental state had gradually deteriorated following these financial losses, and he was discovered in a critical condition. Despite receiving immediate medical treatment, he sadly passed away, with doctors declaring him ‘dead’ on arrival.
No public statements have yet been made by the deceased Suryakant's family or the BSF authorities concerning this disturbing incident.
Earlier in another incident, a cloud of suspicion had hung over the mysterious death of an 18-year-old student from Bangari village under Kudanagari police limits in Kendrapara, with many fearing the influence of online gaming had played a role.
The deceased was identified as Umakanta Jena, the only son of his parents.
Umakanta was pursuing his studies at a private college in Bhubaneswar and had returned home during the vacation. It is said that he had consumed poison and was rescued and rushed to Pattamundai and later shifted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack in critical condition.
However, Umakanta had died on his way to the government-run health facility.
