Key issues relating to the discrepancies in Odia almanac dates were discussed in a meeting, which was held at the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) office on Wednesday, chaired by Administrator (Niti) Jitendra Kumar Sahoo.

Attendees included members of the Mukti Mandap Pandit Sabha in Puri, representatives from various Nijogs of the temple, and compilers of the Panjika (almanac).

The key focus of the meeting was the review of five almanac manuscripts. These documents were scrutinized and discussed with the aim of ensuring harmonization, examination, and necessary amendments.

This effort seeks to address disparities observed in various Panjikas concerning the timing of festivals and rituals, striving for unity in the depiction of dates and functions in future editions.

After the required adjustments, a decision would be made in a future meeting, as guided by the recommendations from the Mukti Mandap Pandit Sabha, the temple Niti administrator Sahoo stated.

“There is no confusion in this (the almanac). We also want all Hindu festivals and rituals to be observed on single days. As some are publishing well in advance sans requisite approval, that is creating confusion,” Radharaman Panjika compiler, Subrat Garabadu said OTV.

“Mukti Mandap Pandit Sabha is now carrying out necessary corrections based on Jyotish Shastra and Dharma Shastra, which have not been completed yet.

After it is done, the same will be matched with the Jagannath temple rituals and festivals,” Pujapanda Nijog secretary Madhaba Pujapanda stated.

“Another meeting is likely to be held during the last week of December or the first week of January 2025 to finalise the festival and ritual dates,” the Pujapanda Nijog secretary added.
