Senior politician Soumya Ranjan Patnaik launched a scathing attack on the previous BJD government and said It was not the victory of Odia Asmita (Odia Pride) in the last General Election, but the defeat of the previous government’s arrogance.

Coming down heavily on the conch party at Naugaon Mahotsav in Jagatsinghpur district, the politician said, "People of Odisha were looking for a change during the elections. They brought the party to power in the State, which they found promising. It is not the victory of Odia Asmita, but rather a defeat of the previous government's arrogance."

BJP leaders need to put in significant efforts to prove that Odia Asmita is heading towards victory. Ensuring focus on Odia Asmita is imperative for the BJP leaders and they must be careful in this regard, he asserted.

“My BJP friends should not think that they were wholeheartedly voted to power by the people who want to see the victory of Odia Asmita instead,” Patnaik opined.

The statement from Patnaik has heated the political atmosphere in the State. While the BJP's reaction to Patnaik's statement couldn't be obtained, the BJD has responded.

Senior BJD leader Pramila Mallik said, “Who was showing arrogance? He himself might be arrogant. He came to know about it recently! If BJD had arrogance, why was he (Soumya Babu) so eager to be fielded as an MLA from the party?”

“Rather, he should have gone to any other party,” Mallik further said.
