In the wake of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) infections in parts of the country, the Odisha government on Tuesday stated that there is no need to panic for the people as no cases of infection have been reported from the state.
“Nobody has been affected by HMPV infections in the State so far. Hence, people should not panic. The Health Department of the Odisha government is fully ready to tackle any kind of eventualities arising out of it. Whatever guidelines and standard operating procedure will be issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to curb the infection, Odisha will strictly adhere to it,” said Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling.
The situation is not that serious in India. So far, HMPV cases have been detected in three to four places in the country so far.
"I have already spoken with all the medical colleges in the State in this regard. Special teams of doctors are fully prepared for the treatment of the infection. If any kind of dire situation occurs, it will be jointly dealt with by the State and the Centre,” he added.

The Minister urged people to go for immediate treatment if they suffer from cough, cold or fever.
“If anybody suffers from cough, cold and fever, they should come to the hospital for primary treatment. We are fully ready for the sample tests. HMPV infection cases have been negligible across the country so far. Both Centre and State are fully ready to tackle any kind of unforeseen situations arising out of it,” said Mahaling.
Earlier, the Odisha Health Department held a crucial meeting at the Loka Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar after multiple HMPV cases were detected in India.
The meeting was attended by the Health Secretary, Director of Health Services, Director of Public Health and other officials of the Department.
