District authorities in Boudh have issued show-cause notices to 56 schools across three blocks after they reportedly failed to serve midday meals to students on Independence Day. The lapses came to light during inspections and complaints from parents and students, prompting swift action from the District Education Office.
Reports stated that out of the 56 institutions identified, 33 are from Harabhanga block, 15 from Boudh block, and 8 from Kantamal block.
As per guidelines, midday meals were to be served on August 15 alongside Independence Day celebrations, but the schools either skipped distribution or failed to account for the food stock supplied to them.
District Education Office Responds
District Education Officer and District Project Coordinator Temlal Dubey confirmed that notices had been issued on Saturday.
“The schools did not serve midday meals on August 15. We have asked for show-cause replies. They will be warned and directed to provide the ration for the missed day to the students. Further disciplinary action will follow depending on the explanations,” Dubey said.
Misuse and Accountability Measures
In some cases, reports suggested misuse of the ration meant for meals. The district administration has taken a serious view of the violations and warned that any unsatisfactory explanation will invite stronger disciplinary measures. Schools have been directed to respond within the stipulated time frame.
Notably, this action marks one of the largest single-day accountability drives in Boudh in recent months, covering schools across all three blocks. Education department teams are closely monitoring compliance to ensure that both meals and pending rations reach the students without further delay.
