The Odisha government on Saturday clarified that there is currently no flood situation in the state, and all major rivers are flowing below the danger level. Authorities have urged the public not to panic as water levels are being continuously monitored and controlled.

According to official sources, although the water level in Hirakud reservoir has shown a gradual rise, it does not pose an alarming situation at present. There is no indication of a potential flood, and all relevant departments are on alert. Importantly, no decision has been made yet to open the gates of Hirakud or Rengali dams specifically due to flood concerns.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no immediate forecast of heavy rainfall that could cause a significant increase in water levels.

“There is no necessity to open the gates for flood management as the current situation remains well under control,” said a senior official. “Any decision regarding the dam gates will be taken based on real-time assessment of the water inflow and outflow,” he added.

In Southern Odisha, the condition of rivers like Indravati and Bansadhara is also reported to be stable. Officials have stated that these rivers are not experiencing any worrying rise in water levels, and all reservoirs in the region are being closely monitored.

Even if gates like Kalama are opened as part of routine water management, it does not indicate any flood threat, authorities clarified.

In Hirakud, six gates are scheduled to be opened tomorrow for a short duration, not due to high water levels, but as part of customary rituals associated with local religious puja. These gates will be closed again soon after the ceremonial release of water.

The Water Resources Department has assured the public that all river systems and reservoirs across the state are under strict watch. Emergency teams are on standby, and coordination with district administrations is ongoing to respond to any unexpected developments promptly.

The Odisha government has appealed to the people to avoid spreading rumours or panic regarding flood situations and rely only on official updates.
