No flood situation in Odisha, water level recedes in Subarnarekha: Chief Engineer

There is no flood situation in Odisha as of now, and water levels in the Subarnarekha river have receded, informed the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department on Friday. 

He further stated that no basin currently has excess water, and no flood warning has been issued anywhere.

As part of the routine Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), six gates of the Hirakud Dam will be opened. The full water storage capacity of the Hirakud reservoir is 630 feet, while the current water level stands at 605 feet, he added.

According to the Chief Engineer, it is still raining in Chhattisgarh, and they are waiting for them to release water.

"There is currently no flood situation in the state. Everywhere, the rivers are flowing below the danger level, so there is absolutely no issue at present. To be very specific, the Mahanadi is flowing 4 meters below the danger level, the Brahmani is 3.75 meters below, the Baitarani is 1.16 meters below, the Budhabalanga is 6.13 meters below sea level and the Subarnarekha is flowing 2.6 meters below the danger level," said Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department Chandra Sekhar Padhi.

"A customary release of water will be made on Sunday, and one gate of Hirakud dam will be opened as considering the current flood situation, which will be adequate. The water level in the Subarnarekha River has come down substantially, and it is now flowing at 2.27 meters below the danger level," he added.
