Amid increasing tensions along the India-Pakistan border, Indian Railways has taken a precautionary step by suspending night-time train services in the sensitive border regions of Jammu and Punjab. The decision comes as part of enhanced security measures to safeguard passengers and railway infrastructure in the wake of growing concerns over cross-border hostilities.

Railway officials stated that train operations after sunset in these vulnerable areas will remain suspended until further notice. The move aims to minimize risks in light of heightened alert levels and recent intelligence inputs.

As many as 11 trains have been fully cancelled, and 9 trains are partially cancelled amid the ongoing Operation Sindoor and for security reasons.

These measures are indicative of a wider precautionary approach being adopted by the railway authorities.

The Railway Department cited potential threats of attacks on densely populated areas from across the border by Pakistan as the main factor behind the decision. The move is part of a broader strategy aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers and railway personnel amidst a backdrop of regional instability.

The suspension of night-time train services is set as a precautionary measure until further notice. Authorities assure that these steps are essential for maintaining public safety.

In response to the tense situation along the India-Pakistan border and the temporary suspension of flight services in several northern regions, Indian Railways has taken a major step to ensure uninterrupted travel for passengers. With a focus on public convenience and national preparedness, the Railways has introduced several special trains connecting key cities such as Jammu, Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Delhi.

As air traffic remains disrupted due to security concerns and airspace restrictions, operations at multiple airports — including Jammu, Srinagar, Dharamshala, Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Patiala — have been temporarily halted. In view of this, Indian Railways swiftly acted by initiating six special train services yesterday, helping stranded passengers and those with urgent travel needs.

Today, the following special trains are operating:

From Baramulla to Banihal, and Banihal to Baramulla,

Chandigarh to Lucknow,

Udhampur to Delhi,

Firozpur to Patna,

Jammu to New Delhi, and

Amritsar to Chhapra.

According to railway officials, these special trains are aimed at maintaining civilian movement and avoiding unnecessary chaos during a period of heightened military vigilance. They added that additional trains will be arranged if the situation continues or worsens.

Indian Railways emphasized that the safety and convenience of passengers remain their top priority. All necessary security arrangements have been made at stations and onboard to ensure a safe journey.
