A newborn boy was allegedly sold by his parents for Rs 10,000 at Jaleswarpur Community Health Centre in Balasore district on Friday.
As per reports, Sushama Das from Taladi village under Bhograi block had given birth to a baby boy at Jaleswarpur hospital. However, it was alleged that following the delivery, Sushama and her husband sold the baby to another person in Mayurbhanj at Rs 10,000.
Later, the Police rescued the baby with the help of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) officials. However, the baby’s mother refuted selling her child for money.
“The allegations are not true. After not finding the child with me, the locals of my village thought I have sold the baby. As my financial condition is very poor, I have given the baby to one of my relatives to take care of him,” said Sushama.
Commenting on the matter, CWC official Prashant Rout said, “We have come to Bhograi Police station. I have informed the IIC. The child will be produced before the CWC. A probe will be conducted and the guilty will be punished as per the law.”
The parents of the baby have been detained and further investigation into the matter is underway by police.
