“Earlier, we thought we may need to shift her to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Now the possibility of shifting her is getting slimmer. Now, we believe she will recover here,” he added.

She is undergoing treatment at the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). Since her mother is yet to be traced, milk from other lactating mothers is being provided. Today, she was given four milliliters of milk. She will be at the SNCU for 10 to 15 days more, informed sources.

On December 12 noon, local people heard the infant's cries. Seeing her stuck in a borewell, they informed the Fire Department. A team of fire personnel initially rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. Later, an ODRAF team joined them. The infant was stuck at around 15 to 20 ft depth inside the borewell and its cries were being heard sporadically from the well, triggering hope for the rescuers.

After an eight-hour-long operation, she was rescued safely.
