A newborn from Jajpur died at a Cuttack hospital, sparking accusations of medical negligence. Relatives and family members alleged improper care despite ventilator facilities.

Tension ran high at a private hospital in the CDA area, Cuttack after a newly-born baby allegedly died due to medical negligence on Monday. 

As per reports, a couple from Jajpur had admitted their newborn son at Sishu Bhawan on October 26. Later, they took their patient to a private hospital in the CDA area. The doctors at the private hospital informed the couple that they started the treatment and their son was on ventilator support. 

Later, they were informed that their son had died. Alleging medical negligence, the family members created a ruckus on hospital premises.

“After coming to know that the hospital has a ventilator facility, we admitted our patient there. But they kept him in the ICU with Oxygen support. Our patient died due to medical negligence,” said Prashan Biswal, the deceased baby’s relative. 

“The doctor at the hospital told us that he would cure my grandson. After depositing Rs 50,000, I had gone to my house to bring more money. Meanwhile, my son called me at 4pm to inform the bad news,” said the deceased baby’s grandmother. 

No reactions were received from the hospital authorities.
