New Odisha Police DG YB Khurania vows to control cyber fraud and crime against women and children

Odisha Police has a special pride and dignity. I feel proud after taking over the responsibility as the head of State police, said Yogesh Bahadur Khurania after taking over the charge as new Odisha Director General (DG) of Police on Friday.

Khurania succeeded Arun Kumar Sarangi, who had been serving as the head of the state police force since December 2023. The appointment came a few days after the Centre approved the premature repatriation of Khurania, serving as Special Director General of the Border Security Force to his parent cadre Odisha with immediate effect.

“As the head of Odisha police, the most important duty for me and my entire police force will be to provide high-quality police service to the people of Odisha. The call of the Chief Minister is that the police forces working at the police stations across the State should show good behaviour to the common people. All kinds of steps will be taken in this direction. Odisha Police has got considerable success in confronting the Maoists. I express my deepest condolences to the police personnel who have lost their lives and become martyrs while confronting the Red Ultras. Their sacrifice will inspire us a great deal to curb the Mao menace completely,” said Khurania.

“The primary responsibility of police is to maintain discipline, investigation and control of crimes. Special emphasis will be given to all these aspects. Emphasis will also be given to improvement in the quality of investigation and application of scientific methods. Special attention will be given to curb the oppression and crimes against the weaker sections of the society like women and children, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes,” he further said.

“Cyber crimes are in an upward surge these days. All kinds of efforts will be made to curb it successfully. Stern actions will be taken against crimes related to narcotic substances. The quality of police forces will be strengthened by providing proper training and application of scientific methods. We are committed to being closer to the common people and all kinds of efforts will be made in this direction,” he added.

Notably, Khurania was instrumental in taking several proactive measures during his stint as Twin City Police Commissioner. Besides, he has always stayed away from controversies.
