New DGP selection: Odisha govt seeks biodata of 3 IPS officers including YB Khurania, SM Narvane

The process for the selection of the new Director General (DG) of Police has begun with Odisha government seeking the biodata of three IPS officers- AK Ray, YB Khurania and SM Narvane.

At present, IPS officer AK Ray is posted as Director Printing, Stationary and Publication. Similarly, YB Khurania is currently posted as Special Director General in BSF and SM Narvane is the OSD, Home Department.

Recently, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had approved the proposal of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to repatriate 1990-batch IPS officer YB Khurania to his parent cadre Odisha. This has sparked off discussions of his appointment as the next Odisha DGP.

Senior journalist, Prasanna Mohanty said,”DGP selection assumes significance. Be it DGP or Chief Secretary, these positions are important for governance. The creation and protection of government’s image depend a lot on these two key officials. As the new government is focusing on Odia Asmita, it is expected that the new DGP’s working style will be crucial in building a people’s friendly police which had taken a dent during the previous government.”

Mohanty said that if we look at YB Khurania’s track record, he has been successful in discharging his duties with efficiency and has proved his mettle. For this reason, YB Khurania has emerged as the front runner for the DGP post.
