Following Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi’s announcement, the state Housing and Urban Development Department has confirmed that the New Bhubaneswar city project has moved ahead.
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is underway for the new urban cluster, which will be developed on 800 acres of land, covering Mallipada, Daspur, Andharua, and Gothapatna regions, informed the H&UD Department.
Singapore Government Prepares Blueprint
During an interaction with the media, Odisha Housing and Development Minister, Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, stated that the Government of Singapore has taken up responsibility for preparing the city’s masterplan and design.
According to reports, the project may follow the model of Gujarat’s Dholera GIFT City, with provisions for IT parks, medical facilities, housing, commercial establishments, pedestrian walkways, open spaces, and non-polluting industries.
Focus On Infrastructure And Economic Activity
The Minister stated that the DPR will be prepared and will be submitted to the Odisha government within one to two months. Plans also include drainage, sewage, and water facilities before land allotments begin.
“The BDA is expanding its jurisdiction with the formation of a new Bhubaneswar city spread across 800 acres. Several parks and necessities will be developed in the TP scheme. BDA is preparing plans to lay drainage, sewage, and water facilities after which the land will be allotted to people,” said the Minister.

Officials Outline Vision
The new township will emphasise eco-friendly practices and provide space for industrial activity alongside residential and commercial growth, said H&UD Secretary Usha Padhee.
“It will be an ideally planned city with walkways, open spaces, and accessibility for pedestrians. It will also host several non-polluting industries and will become an economic hub,” she said.
