The recent death of a Nepalese student at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar has sparked deep concern in the Nepal National Assembly, with lawmakers demanding urgent action and a thorough investigation.

The unfortunate incident has reignited the debate over the safety of Nepalese students pursuing higher education at the varsity.

Lawmakers Express Concerns

Several members of the Nepal National Assembly, including Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, expressed concern over the repeated reports of unfortunate deaths of Nepalese students at the university during today’s emergency session.

Dahal described the incident as extremely 'distressing' and called for strong diplomatic engagement between Nepal and India to uncover the truth behind such occurrences.

The legislators have urged the Nepal government to carry out a neutral and independent investigation into the cause of the students' deaths. In addition, they demanded justice for the deceased. Dahal specifically asked for measures that would ensure no such incident would repeat in the future.

No Issuance of NOCs Demanded

The parliamentarians further demanded that students planning to study at KIIT University should not be allowed to proceed. Tula Prasad Bishwakarma, a member of the Rashtriya Janamorcha, called on the government to immediately halt the process of issuing NOCs for the private university. 

"It is deeply saddening that such incidents are happening repeatedly at the same institution. I urge both governments to investigate the root causes through diplomatic channels and ensure such tragedies do not recur," said Dahal.

"We demand a neutral and independent investigation into the cause of the Nepalese students' death at KIIT university," said Nepal National Assembly member Uday Bahadur Bohra.

"We demand that the government should immediately halt the process of issuing NOCs to the Nepalese students to study at KIIT University," said Madan Kumari Shah.

In response, KIIT public relations director said that they would be in a position to comment on the matter after getting detailed information about the development.

As of now, no official response has been received from the Odisha government regarding the incident.
