Incessant rain triggered a flood-like situation in the Koida block of Sundargarh district, leaving Gopisahi village in complete isolation for the past three days. With the Gopisahi canal overflowing and the Sunanadi river swelling in Malda panchayat, access to and from the village has come to a standstill. Around 50 families remain trapped, surrounded by floodwaters and cut off from essential supplies.
No Administrative Help Reaches The Area
According to reports, no officials or personnel from the administration have visited the affected villagers so far. The absence of emergency response has deepened the crisis for the residents, who are struggling to meet basic needs such as food and clean water.
Villagers Recount Annual Ordeal
Expressing frustration, one local youth said, “Every year during the floods, media people come here and we request through them to the government to build us a bridge over the canal. We always get stranded whenever the canal floods. We have no way of accessing the rest of the area easily, nor do we receive rations for our homes. We have to take a detour through the jungle from the other side just to meet basic needs.”
Jungle Route Risky And Unsafe
Another villager shared his anguish, stating, “The road through the jungle is very dangerous. Elephants always reside and travel through that area. There are also snakes. We have no access to food or clean drinking water. The canal water is completely dirty. People were cooking with packaged water, but that has now run out.”
