Ten guns including seven demo guns used by NCC cadets of Panchayat College in Bargarh have reportedly gone missing from a police station.
As per reports, the guns were first brought from the Reserve Police in 2017 to give ‘guard of honour’ for the NCC Deputy Ditector General who visited the College at that time.
Following the event, the guns were reportedly deposited at the police station. But, over the course of time, the guns went missing from the police station.
Speaking to the reporters, the Principal of Panchayat College, Patitapaban Sahu said, “The guns were brought from the Reserve Police in 2017 for an event. It was a standard practice for the college to collect the guns from the police station by signing a diary and depositing the same by making entry in the same diary after the training.”
“The disappearance of the rifles came to the fore after our NCC officer went to the police station to collect the guns for practice, but could not find them in their usual place,” Sahu added.
The college has lodged a complaint at the Town Police Station in this connection.
In a related development, the NCC is all set to be recognised as an elective course in Odisha UG Colleges.
The Higher Education Department on Monday wrote letters to the Vice Chancellors of all the Universities coming under the Higher Education department asking them to implement the National Cadet Crops (NCC) as a ‘General Elective Course’ at Under Graduate (UG) level from the academic session 2023-24.
