When the entire country was dipped in Teachers’ Day celebration, an incident at Navodaya Vidyalaya at Tarbod in Nuapada district in Odisha shocked everyone. Around 22 class 10 students of Navodaya Vidyalaya were allegedly thrashed by senior class 12 students following a dispute over alleged passing of some remarks to senior students during Teachers’ Day celebration on Thursday.
As per the allegations, the class 12 students had visited the classroom of class 10 as teachers. Later, some girl students alleged that some junior students passed some comments which subsequently snowballed into a controversy.
After the Teachers’ Day celebration in the day, the senior students called the junior class 10 students in the hostel and allegedly thrashed them with iron sticks, belts and other objects. Around 22 junior students have sustained injuries in the assault.
Following the incident, the class 10 students on Friday staged a demonstration demanding suspension of the senior students involved in the incident.
“Today, we have staged a dharma seeking justice for our boy students. The senior students should be suspended for attacking class 10 students,” said a class 10 student.
Bibhuti Bhusan Sarangi, a guardian said, “As a parent, we usually expect good education and protection. We heard that senior students have thrashed junior class 10 students after calling them to the hostel. The House master, night watcher and Principal are responsible for the incident.”
An injured class 10 student said, “Two senior girl students had come to class as teachers. Though nobody passed any remarks, they informed the seniors who then called to the hostel and attacked us with sticks, iron rods. They also threatened to kill us.”
JNV Principal DV Raman said, “The incident occurred at midnight. We got information that some class 12 students beat some class 10 students. There are scratches on the student s’ body. The parents are demanding issuance of TC to the students. We have suspended the students and will bring the matter to the notice of higher authorities for appropriate decision.”
