Opposing the Home Department’s demands for grants, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik launched a scathing attack on the BJP government on Saturday.
Referring to issues starting from communal violence in Balasore and Jatani, mismanagement during Rath Yatra, Lord Balabhadra falling on the charamala, Chikiti liquor tragedy to the allegations against the Governor’s son, Patnaik targeted the state govt.
“The recent murder in Khordha district and the mismanagement of the Rath Yatra when Lord Balabhadra toppled onto the ground shocked millions of Odias. Such matters didn’t take place in the time of our Biju Janata Dal government,” said Patnaik.
During the discussion on demands for grants, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi launched a counter-attack on Patnaik saying the LOP had sought answers but was not present to listen to them.

"The law and order situation in the state is all right. Recently, the Rath Yatra was conducted peacefully. The new government has completed 81 days and I have so far reviewed the state’s crime situation thrice. The former Chief Minister had never cared for the law and order situation. We are ahead in all parameters. The low rate of criminal conviction during the previous government is shameful. For early disposal of cases, we will soon take a decision to set up special courts," said CM Majhi.
BJP MLA Tankadhar Tripathy said, “The previous Chief Minister had also retained the Home Department. During his rule, his minister was murdered in broad daylight. He even didn’t answer who was behind the crime. If he raised the question, he should have been present in the House to listen to the answer.”
